New ERP road markings and signs to be introduced from October as part of ERP 2
Motorists can expect to see new ERP road markings and signs from October 2026 ahead of the full ERP 2 system launch on 1 January 2027.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced today, 28 September, that to support the move to the new ERP 2 system, it will gradually introduce new Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) road markings and road signs from October.
The new road markings will include two blue oval “ERP” symbols painted on each lane of arterial and slip roads, and three symbols on each lane of expressways to give motorists greater visibility of ERP charging zones.
In addition, a new “ERP Charge Zone” road sign will also be placed at the start of each ERP charging location as an additional visual cue for motorists.

These new road signs and markings will be progressively implemented across the 33 existing ERP locations from October and will be completed by the time ERP 2 launches on 1 January, 2027.
As the new ERP 2 system utilises Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology, physical ERP gantries are no longer required. Instead, the On-Board Unit (OBU) detects when a vehicle passes an ERP charging location and calculates the applicable ERP charges.
With the transition to ERP 2, all Singapore-registered motor vehicles must be fitted with the ERP 2 OBU to travel on public roads in Singapore. To date, more than 98% of eligible vehicles have had the OBU installed.
The LTA decided on these specific road markings and signs after a study was conducted earlier in the year involving around 1,000 motorists and multiple variations of the road markings.
The study found that the final oval blue “ERP” symbol was the preferred option, with high visibility under different traffic and weather conditions, while still being easily understood by motorists as a visual cue for ERP charging locations.
From October, the LTA will also remove the physical ERP gantries across the island in two phases. The first phase will involve removing the 62 non-operational gantries, while the remaining 33 operational gantries will be removed after gantry-based ERP charging ceases at the end of the year.
