July 2025 COE Results 2nd Bidding: LTA’s COE snake stayed on the same high rung of its ladder, with Cat A unchanged at $101.1k and Cats B & E still hovering at the $120k mark
In the second COE bidding exercise of July 2025, Cat A closed at $101,102; Cat B closed at $119,101; Cat C closed at $68,600; Cat D closed at $9,511; while Cat E closed at $120,000.
Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 1,874 bids for 1,253 COEs and its premium didn’t change at all compared to the previous bidding round. Category A COE closed at $101,102.
Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 1,148 bids for 784 COEs and its premium dipped by $499. Category B COE closed at $119,101.
Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 405 bids for 271 COEs and its premium increased by $1,911. Category C COE closed at $68,600.
Cat D (motorcycle) received 622 bids for 540 COEs and its premium increased by $122. Category D COE closed at $9,511.
Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 431 bids for 211 COEs and climbed by $1,500. Category E COE closed at exactly $120,000.
Nicholas Wong, chief executive officer of Honda authorised agent Kah Motor, told Motorist: “I have no idea how Cat A ended exactly the same. Most importantly, bidding numbers have gone down quite substantially, yet prices remain high. The pressure on getting cars out is still very high. I guess dealers are still clearing back-orders. I’m also puzzled why the new quota has not been announced yet.”
Jason Lim, managing director of BMW authorised dealer Eurokars Auto, told Motorist: “A & B didn’t drop as demand is still there - not like super fantastic, but it’s sustaining current ongoing sales momentum. The $1.5k increase in Cat E - traditionally, everybody collect a bit just to rush balance registration for the month and catch up. They cannot wait for new quota announcement, which will be for next month’s registrations. Dealers in Cat A could be fulfilling their order bank. For us, we sold more Cat B cars.”
Corinne Chua, managing director of Volvo Car Singapore which now has a Category A variant of the EX30 small SUV, told Motorist that “The number of unsuccessful bids from the last round of bidding was high, so a lot spilled over to this round. If not, typically this round should drop. For the Open Cat COEs with three-months validity, I suspect some may be keeping them for the three-week break between September’s second bid (on Sep 17) and October’s first bid (on Oct 8). This will also be right after Car Expo, which is happening at the end of September. Three-week break plus Car Expo means COE will be high.”
Anthony Teo, managing director of Vantage Automotive which distributes BYD and DENZA in Singapore, told Motorist: “The demand was still high for Categories A and B/E, although Cat B dropped slightly while Cat E went up. Dealers didn’t go in to bid aggressively, as most of them may be waiting for the next COE quota announcement and hope to have some increase in the quota.”
