September 2026 COE Results 1st Bidding: Hungry ghosts packed up and COE prices were jacked up, with all the car Categories revving to over $130k on the LTA tachometer
In the first COE bidding exercise of September 2026, Cat A closed at $133,009; Cat B closed at $135,001; Cat C closed at $93,101; Cat D closed at $12,556; while Cat E closed at $137,890.
Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 1,708 bids for 1,195 COEs and its premium climbed by $4,508. Category A COE closed at $133,009.
Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 1,333 bids for 934 COEs and its premium climbed by $4,000. Category B COE closed at $135,001.
Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 565 bids for 310 COEs and its premium increased by $3,099. Category C COE closed at $93,101.
Cat D (motorcycle) received 657 bids for 514 COEs and its premium increased by $1,255. Category D COE closed at $12,556.
Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 513 bids for 300 COEs and climbed by $2,890. Category E COE closed at $137,890.
Motorist asked some motor traders whether the COE results in this round were surprisingly supercharged.
There was a general consensus among several rival directors at the Alexandra/Leng Kee motor belt that the main reason for the markedly higher COE premiums of September 9 was the three-week interval since the previous round of bidding on August 19.
One of them, Chong Kah Wei, the Eurokars MD of BMW and MINI, added: “But the increase is a bit too much.”
Vynn Tu, Wearnes Automotive GM overseeing NIO, Renault and Alpine, said: “We didn’t expect it to hit so high.”
Kah Motor Honda CEO, Nicholas Wong, analysed it further - “It was surprisingly hot, considering only 129 and 47 more bids for A and B respectively.”
He also wondered aloud: “Ministers buy cars, ah?”
With or without a significant salary bump, car buyers should take note of what Ron Lim, Nissan head of sales and marketing, shared with us - “From the number of bids submitted, it’s actually not that strong compared with the round before. This could be a sign of slower demand, which unfortunately still outstripped the supply available. With Open Category continuing to increase, it also means the market is expecting COE prices to stay high.”
