A weekend of mixed emotions for Motorist and the Shane Ang Racing team at the second round of races of the 2026 PT Maxnitron Racing Series.

The mid-season showdown of the 2026 PT Maxnitron Racing Series (PTRS) was full of drama for the Shane Ang Racing (SAR) outfit, with strong highs and crushing lows for every member of the team.

In Siam Group N, Motorist’s resident racer, Aiden Chong, showed strong pace throughout practice and qualifying, putting his #69 Honda CR-Z on the front row for the first race of the weekend (actually Race 4 for the season).

However, he got caught out by oil left on the track from someone else’s engine blowing up and lost a heap of positions in the chaos. He eventually managed to fight back to finish fifth overall and third in class.

Thanks to the reverse grid format, he would then start from pole position for the second race (actually Race 5 for the season). However, two laps from the finish and whilst embroiled in a fight for the overall podium, the engine mount on his car failed, causing the driveshaft to pop out and stranding him on track, ending his podium challenge and putting a serious dent in his championship hopes.

In the similarly hard-fought Siam Eco class, Gladys Lam had a power issue in qualifying which led to her starting Race 4 from last on the grid, just behind teammate and PTRS debutant, Ken Hooi, who was also disqualified from qualifying.

However, both Gladys and Ken managed to fight back through the 20-strong field to finish eighth and tenth overall, respectively. Gladys also earned herself a fifth-place trophy in the AM class.

For Race 5, they would move even further up the field, with Ken finishing sixth overall and fourth in class, while Gladys finished eighth overall and sixth in class, consolidating as many points as possible in her championship bid.

Fellow Siam Eco racer, Ron Tay, had a mixed weekend as well after seeing big gains in race pace and a career-best 14th-place finish in Race 4, but was left mired on track with a DNF from a gearbox issue in Race 5.

In the top-dog Siam GT class, the first of their three races (they only got two races last round) saw Shane Ang win the race outright. Kenneth Ho snagged a class win as well, though he went on to sweep all three class wins for the weekend.

In Race 4, Shane Ang was unable to repeat his victory after an oil pump failure caused his car to catch fire mid-race, resulting in a DNF for him. Race 5 saw all three SAR drivers on the podium in the category, one of the best results for the team this season.

The whole team now looks towards the final round of the season, happening from 14 to 18 October at the Songkhla Grand Prix street circuit, for one last charge towards their various championship challenges.

Congratulations to the team and stay tuned for more racing action!
