In the second COE bidding exercise of June 2026, Cat A closed at $123,847; Cat B closed at $123,502; Cat C closed at $93,001; Cat D closed at $9,989; while Cat E closed at $129,002.

Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 1,768 bids for 1,251 COEs and its premium dipped by $2,162. Category A COE closed at $123,847.

Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 1,202 bids for 883 COEs and its premium dipped by $3,487. Category B COE closed at $123,502.

Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 390 bids for 291 COEs and its premium decreased by $999. Category C COE closed at $93,001.

Cat D (motorcycle) received 615 bids for 532 COEs and its premium decreased by $11. Category D COE closed at $9,989.

Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 487 bids for 262 COEs and climbed by merely $2. Category E COE closed at $129,002.

With three weeks to go before the next round of bidding kicks off on July 6, most of the motor traders that Motorist spoke to are expecting an upward dribble in COE premiums.

Chong Kah Wei, Eurokars managing director of BMW and MINI, said: “Because of three weeks’ bidding, normally the movements are up due to order takes. But looking at the Open Cat uptake of this round, I feel that people are using it to catch up to their numbers for month end.”

Another Leng Kee dealership director added: “With three weeks’ break, plus the drop in COE and price adjustments by dealers, hopefully we’ll see more interest this weekend.”

Corinne Chua, Wearnes managing director of Volvo Car, said: “With the additional week of selling, I expect COE premiums to rebound and go back up. There is no sign of it softening, and it will remain strong till year-end as the EEAI expires.”

Ron Lim, Tan Chong Motor head of Nissan sales and marketing, said: “Given the correction in COE premiums, which is likely to see buyers returning, coupled with a three-week collection period, pressure will be on COE premiums to rebound. Dealers are also likely to rebuild their order books after clearing the bulk, if not all, of those collected at the last Expo event.”

Raymond Ng, Eurokars EV managing director of IM Motors and MG, said: “For three-week break, we usually see the COE premium rise because there is 50 percent more time to collect more orders.”

Ernest Tan, deputy CEO of Vincar Group representing Aion, GAC and Proton, said: “With today’s drop, I think there is a chance for COE to go up.”

Soh Ming, managing director of Volt Auto Dongfeng, said: “I think it will go up.”

Some motor traders, however, are expecting midfield stability in the next COE ball game.

Nicholas Wong, Kah Motor Honda chief executive, told Motorist: “At this point, COE prices are at all-time high. With fleet and commercial-interest private hire still in the competition, it is unlikely that COE premiums will come down any further.”

Lee Hoe Lone, Premium Automobiles managing director of Zeekr, Xpeng, DEEPAL and AVATR, said: “Likely about this level, as it didn’t drop enough to spur a lot more demand.”

Vincent Ng, Vincar commercial director of GAC, Aion, Hyptec and Proton, added: “Sales will be slow for two weekends and then pick up on the third weekend. I reckon COE levels will be similar, but Cat A will be higher than Cat B again.”

Adelene Tan, Vantage Automotive managing director of BYD, blew the final whistle for this auction match when she concluded: “This is quite a good time to enter the market.”
