Heading north for Deepavali? Brace for long queues at land checkpoints, says ICA
Travellers heading to Malaysia by land during the Deepavali long weekend should prepare for significant delays, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has advised.
Heavy traffic is expected at both the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints from the evening of October 17 Friday, to the evening of October 20 Monday, 2025.
The anticipated congestion is due to the peak holiday travel period, coupled with intensified checks by ICA officers to prevent the smuggling of prohibited items, including e-vaporisers.
During the September school holidays, more than 5.8 million travellers crossed the land checkpoints, with some car travellers experiencing waiting times of up to three hours.
The ICA also encourages the use of QR codes for faster immigration clearance. By using the MyICA mobile app to generate a QR code, travellers can enjoy a more seamless and contactless experience at the checkpoints. However, do remember to bring your physical passport, as it is still a required travel document.
For motorists looking for a hassle-free trip, the Motorist Singapore app offers a suite of services to help you navigate the expected traffic surge. The app's standout Checkpoint feature provides:
Live traffic camera feeds from both Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints.
Real-time traffic updates to help you choose the best time to travel.

By having this information at your fingertips, you can make informed decisions and potentially save hours of waiting time. The Motorist app also offers other useful features for cross-border travel, including 24/7 roadside assistance, so as to ensure peace of mind on your journey.
Important reminders for travellers:
