June 2025 COE Results 2nd Bidding: It was expensive business as usual for the COE snake before its three-week snooze till the next round, with premiums in all Categories except Cat D inching upward
In the second COE bidding exercise of June 2025, Cat A closed at $98,124; Cat B closed at $116,670; Cat C closed at $65,000; Cat D closed at $8,600; while Cat E closed at $116,889.
Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 1,647 bids for 1,254 COEs and its premium climbed by $1,125. Category A COE closed at $98,124.
Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 1,163 bids for 784 COEs and its premium climbed by $3,670. Category B COE closed at exactly $116,670.
Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 393 bids for 271 COEs and its premium increased by $3,000. Category C COE closed at exactly $65,000.
Cat D (motorcycle) received 605 bids for 535 COEs and its premium decreased by $400. Category D COE closed at $8,600.
Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 399 bids for 223 COEs and climbed by $2,989. Category E COE closed at $116,889.
Ng Choon Wee, commercial director of Komoco Motors which retails Hyundai, told Motorist: “I expected the COE premiums to rise, mainly due to the drop in the last bid, and some brands had roadshows despite the school holidays. Our showroom traffic also increased in the past two weeks. The new transport minister had told reporters in an interview on 11 June that ‘The reality is there won’t be space for every Singaporean to own a car in Singapore.’ I would interpret that there will not be any changes to the system and the LTA’s cut-and-fill approach should continue.”
Nicholas Wong, chief executive officer of Honda authorised agent Kah Motor, told Motorist: “We expected the COE premiums to rebound, so it wasn’t surprising that they went up.”
Corinne Chua, managing director of Volvo Car Singapore under Wearnes Automotive, told Motorist: “The customers who were waiting returned to the market, with two rounds of consecutive drops in COE amounting close to $7k for Cat B. While it’s the school holidays, we did see higher showroom traffic and the interest level has been not too bad.”
Jason Lim, managing director of BMW authorised dealer Eurokars Auto, told Motorist: “Within my expectations. We saw renewed interest and strong order-taking after the drop in the last round.”
Gazing into the COE crystal ball towards the next bidding which is three weeks away on 7 July, Motorist asked some motor traders for their predictions.
Soh Ming, managing director of Dongfeng Singapore, replied: “Moving forward, I would expect COE to be on an upward trend, especially with the three-week gap.”
Anthony Teo, managing director of Vantage Automotive which distributes BYD and DENZA in Singapore, answered: “I don’t think Cat A will cross $100k, but then again, it’s very difficult to say, with three weeks to the next round. Hopefully not, lah, but it’ll be around that price.”
Wearnes Volvo’s MD Corinne Chua responded: “I think the COE will continue to rise. The three weeks’ break between this bidding exercise and the next one in July also explains why most dealers wanted to secure their COEs in this round and keep some open-Cat certs, in case the next COE bidding goes higher.”
