It's time for another round up of Inconsiderate Drivers of the Week. In this week's episode, we feature several drivers who can't seem to follow simple road rules.

In this weekly feature, we'll be taking a look at drivers who were caught on camera for their inconsiderate and reckless driving. These drivers exhibit poor driving etiquette, and we hope you never emulate their behaviour on the roads.

1) Toyota Wish Makes Illegal U-Turn Across Five Lanes, Causes Motorcyclist to Crash Head-On Into Car

This video shows a black Toyota Wish making an illegal U-turn across five lanes along River Valley Road. The driver failed to check his blind-spot when turning and didn't notice the motorcyclist. Caught unaware by driver's action, the biker crashed head-on to the side of the car, causing the side window of the car to break. The impact looked quite serious as the motorcyclist appeared to be visibly hurt from the collision. This avoidable accident would not have occurred if the Toyota Wish driver simply followed the rules of the road.

2) White Nissan Beats Read Light, Drives Through a Pedestrian Crossing

We're amazed how some drivers are still unable to comprehend the meaning of a red light. In this instance, a white Nissan can be seen approaching a pedestrian crossing. Despite the light turning red and having ample time to break, the driver simply drove straight through the crossing. Several pedestrians were already crossing midway and had to stop in their tracks for the driver. If they were a few paces faster, the driver probably would have collided into them. Remember: pedestrians are often the most vulnerable road users, and vehicle owners should always give way to them, no matter the circumstances.

3) A Mercedes-Benz Driver's Indecision Leads to Reckless Driving on the Highway

Don't you just hate it when a driver can't seem to decide where he or she wants to go? They sway from left to right, and will sometimes lane change suddenly, causing you to jam your brake. For the driver of this black Mercedes-Benz , his indecision certainly caused a major headache for fellow motorists on the ECP. Caught in-between entering the KPE and exiting Fort Road ,the driver can't seem to decide where to go. Eventually, the driver decided to “park” his car in the middle of the road divider. He probably needed time to think of where he should be heading.

4) PDVL Driver Commits Three Traffic Offences in a Row

This Totoya PDVL driver committed not one, but three traffic offences in a row. The first offence is failing to stop behind the stop line. The second offence is failing to turn right on a right-turn only lane. The driver drove straight instead. The last offence, which is probably the most severe of the three, is beating a red light. Luckily, there were no pedestrians crossing the road when it happened.

5) Petty Volvo Driver Plays “Braking Game” with Another Car

Whatever happened to kindness and humility on the road? In the video, the driver of a white Volvo can be seen playing an inconsiderate game of jam braking to the white Toyota behind him. Apparently, this is to “get back” at the Toyota driver for sounding his horn at him earlier. Not only is this childish, but it is also dangerous for other drivers on the road, as it might cause an accident. Road rage is never a solution, sometimes it’s better to walk away than to blow the situation out of proportion.

The purpose of this compilation isn’t to shame or expose these drivers, but to learn from their mistakes. In all honesty, the driving culture in Singapore leaves a lot to be desired. We lack basic road courtesy and we don’t mind causing inconveniences to other road users if it benefits us. We sometimes even put their lives at risks with our careless and nonchalant driving.

To improve our driving culture, we need to look ourselves in the mirror and learn to share our roads. Instead of treating fellow motorists as competition, we need to remember that every other road user is just like us—all they want is to reach their destination safely and on time.
