Come September, the highly subscribed Porsche Taycan will enter the MY2022. These updated cars will sport a few key updates, which include changes to the drivetrain, and infotainment upgrades as well as the availability of Remote Park Assist.

Just how highly subscribed? Porsche shifted approximately 20,000 units in the first half of 2021 alone. Those are some seriously impressive figures, and not that far off sales of their iconic flagship - the 911!

As part of the new model year, these updated cars will sport a few key updates. Apart from revisions to the drivetrain, Porsche has also tweaked its infotainment and added their Remote Park Assist. But the most visible difference has to be the wider range of paint colours.

Your Taycan can now be finished in a wider range of colours thanks to Porsche's Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus options!

Mechanical Enhancements – More Usable Range

The new all-wheel-drive variant of the Taycan, when in Normal and Range modes, will have its front electric motor almost completely decoupled and de-energised when coasting or at standstill. This electric freewheel function reduces drag losses.

When power is requested or the driving mode is changed, the motors are re-energised within milliseconds. Other tweaks include improvements to the thermal management and its charging. No official increase in range though - the new Taycan model year will not be homologated separately, which means no new WLTP range values. Porsche does promise a greater real-world range though!

Remote Park Assist – Remote Controlled Parking

Remote Park Assist will allow the Taycan’s driver to remotely control parking manoeuvres via a smartphone. The driver does not need to be behind the wheel, and you can use this feature for both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces and garages.

It uses its array of ultrasonic sensors and cameras to detect and measure the parking spaces. If there is enough space, the driver can then start the parking process through the Porsche Connect app, and can exit the vehicle.

The driver is able to continuously monitor the process by pressing and holding a button on the smartphone app’s interface. When the button is released, the parking manoeuvre will be stopped.

Android Auto Integration

The sixth-generation Porsche Communication Management (PCM) has had Android Auto integration built into it. Previously, only iOS users were able to enjoy the connectivity – now smartphones with the Google Android operating system will also be supported.

Selected phone functions and smartphone apps that do not adversely affect driving safety can therefore now be operated via PCM 6.0 or the Google Assistant voice commands.

Paint to Sample Paintwork

With Paint to Sample, a number of highly colourful paint finishes from the 1990s can now be applied to your Taycan. This adds 65 additional colours to the catalogue, including iconic hues such as Moonlight Blue Metallic, Acid Green, Rubystar, Riviera Blue and Viola Metallic.

Paint to Sample Plus gives customers an additional layer of customisation, with almost complete freedom in their choice of colour, even permitting them to match their Taycan to their favourite accessory.

Charging Developments

The Taycan now comes with Porsche Destination Charging, an exclusive service that allows customers to charge their electric or plug-in hybrid Porsche models free of charge at particular popular destinations.

The German sports car manufacturer has been significantly boosting its electric mobility offer in Southeast Asia, with its recently implemented cross-boundary high-performance charging (HPC) network in partnership with Shell.

This service offers the highest cross-border charging capacity between Singapore and Malaysia, with 180 kW direct-current (DC) chargers.

Within Singapore, Porsche will soon introduce further locations to the growing Porsche Destination Charging network, and these will join the current sites at Marina Bay Sands as well as at Sentosa Golf Club.
