Porsche has announced a rear-wheel drive variant of the all-electric Taycan sports saloon. It will be available with two battery options and delivers up to 469hp and 357Nm of torque.

The new Taycan will be the fourth model in the Taycan range, alongside the Taycan 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S. This new offering from Porsche is the first Taycan to be offered with RWD.

Two battery options will be available for the new Taycan at launch; the single-deck Performance Battery as standard, and the optional two-deck Performance Battery Plus.

The entry-level Performance Battery has a capacity of 79.2kWh, while the Plus has a capacity of 93.4kWh. Porsche claims a driving range of 431km or 484km for the Performance Battery and Performance Battery Plus respectively.

The Performance Battery gives you a nominal power output of 240kW (321hp), with an overboost mode and launch control that bumps it up to 300kW (402hp).

With the optional Performance Battery Plus, nominal power is 280kW (374hp) with 350kW (469hp) on tap when used in overboost mode with launch control.

Regardless of which battery option is selected, the Taycan does the century sprint in 5.4 seconds and will carry on to a top speed of 230km/h.

What does change, however, is its maximum charging capacity. The Performance Battery is able to charge at up to 225kW, while the Plus is able to charge at up to 270kW.

Porsche says this enables drivers to charge from 5% to 80% in just 22.5 minutes with 100km of range added in just five minutes. All this is in addition to the Taycan’s maximum energy recuperation power of 265kW.

On the exterior, the new Taycan looks largely the same as the other variants, with sleek lines and aerodynamics a key focus of the design. The Taycan has a drag coefficient of just 0.22 to lower air resistance and increase range and efficiency.

This new Taycan uniquely comes with 19” Taycan Aero wheels with black anodised brake callipers while its front apron, side sills, and rear diffuser are the same as on the Taycan 4S.

Inside, the curved digital instrument cluster and 10.9” infotainment screen are carried over from the other models, with an optional passenger display available. A colour heads-up display is also available as an option.

The Taycan comes with a partial leather interior as standard but is the first Porsche model available with an entirely leather-free interior as part of Porsche’s bid for sustainability.

Being an electric vehicle, the Taycan has two boots; the standard one at the back, and one more in front where the engine usually is. The ‘frunk’ has 84l of capacity, while the traditional boot has 407l of cargo space.

Porsche has also brought over their Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system to the new Taycan and it works on both the standard steel-spring suspension and on the optional adaptive air suspension.

If equipped with the optional adaptive air suspension, drivers will also get a feature called Smartlift that can be programmed to automatically raise the vehicle’s ride height at recurring locations such as humps or driveways.

Porsche says Smartlift can also actively adjust the vehicle’s ride height on expressways to find the best compromise between comfort and efficiency.

The new Taycan rides on the wave of a successful year for Porsche, with over 20,000 Taycans delivered in 2020 alone.

Demand continues to remain strong too with the Taycan accounting for 70% of all Porsche models sold in Norway.

The new RWD Taycan is now available to order from Porsche Centre Singapore and with deliveries starting from the second quarter of this year. Prices for the new Taycan start at S$340,588 and includes Porsche's complimentary and comprehensive five-year maintenance and warranty programme. The battery is also covered by an eight-year warranty with both battery and vehicle warranties able to be extended to 15-years.

To cater to new owners of the electric Taycan, Porsche Centre Singapore will also be offering complimentary home or office charging check and installation with a certified electrical specialist.
