The Porsche Macan 2 Electric might just be the base variant of the all-electric Macan, but impressive build quality and driving dynamics shine through and make the Macan a compelling option in the segment.

What’s Great

  • Even as an electric SUV, the Macan still retains Porsche's signature handling prowess, with a fun and engaging driving experience as one of the key highlights of the car.
  • The Macan's interior layout is similar to most other modern Porsches, which means it's well laid out with physical buttons for commonly used car functions.
  • With up to 355hp and 563Nm available when using the Launch Control or Overboost functions, the Macan still has plenty of power on tap.

What’s Good

  • The build quality of the cabin is top-notch and makes it a wonderful place to spend extended periods of time.
  • While we weren't sure about the looks of the new Macan at first, we must say it's grown on us with time, and we feel it looks rather good and distinguished now.
  • The thin-rimmed steering wheel feels lovely in the hand, a bonus to the direct and communicative steering.

What’s Not Great

  • Like all Porsches, the costs of options add up quickly. For example, the Volcano Grey Metallic exterior colour on our test car is a $4,201 option. And if you'd like any other rim design other than the ones on our test car, that's going to be at least another $5,044.

Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1779166923614 Eos 7910 FotorSpeaking of optional extras, the leather package you see here in Black and Crayon was an extra $7,827. Good thing it looks great, then. Thankfully, the 8-way electric Comfort seats come as standard, though there are 14-way Comfort seats available from $5,094.

Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1779166943332 Eos 7899 FotorThe electric Macan has a handsome rear end that looks recognisably Porsche, especially when paired with these 20-inch, classic-style rims.

Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1779166958180 Eos 7917 FotorOddly enough, despite being an electric car, the Macan does have a slight hump in the floor, which, when combined with the centre console, does slightly impede the space of the middle passenger. There's no issue for the folks on either side, with sufficient room all around and a handy control panel for the rear air conditioning located in the middle.

Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1779166964211 Eos 7875 FotorThe adaptive rear spoiler you see in this image is part of a wider active aerodynamic system that includes active cooling flaps on the front air intake and flexible covers on the fully sealed underbody of the Macan. These elements work automatically to optimise the aerodynamic efficiency of the car to maximise range.

Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1779166980072 Eos 7922 FotorThe Macan's boot is large and functional, with a wide opening aperture allowing for easy loading and unloading. It's also expandable from 540 litres with the rear seats in place to up to 1,348 litres with them folded away.

Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1779166986708 Eos 7912 FotorPorsche has some of the best cabin designs on the market today, regardless of whether you're in a top-of-the-line 911 or this base spec Macan, the build quality is exceptional, and you just feel like you're in something premium.

Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1779166993859 Eos 7927 FotorIf the boot wasn't enough space, the Macan also features an 84-litre frunk, an excellent option for when you want to place items separately from the main boot, like perhaps dirty boots after a hike.
