April 2026 COE Results 2nd Bidding: The COE horse continued its turbocharged hike, with Cat A climbing above Cat B for the second time this year
In the second COE bidding exercise of April 2026, Cat A closed at $123,010; Cat B closed at $121,001; Cat C closed at $83,501; Cat D closed at $9,290; while Cat E closed at $125,002.
Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 2,410 bids for 1,265 COEs and its premium climbed by $5,010. Category A COE closed at $123,010.
Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 1,194 bids for 811 COEs and its premium climbed by a token $1. Category B COE closed at $121,001.
Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 494 bids for 290 COEs and its premium increased by $3,500. Category C COE closed at $83,501.
Cat D (motorcycle) received 684 bids for 563 COEs and its premium decreased by $710. Category D COE closed at $9,290.
Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 494 bids for 241 COEs and climbed by $4,001. Category E COE closed at $125,002.
Motorist asked a few motor traders whether the COE premiums will continue their turbo hike in the next round of bidding.
The sales director of a major dealership selling new-energy vehicles said: “It’s hard to tell (before) the announcement for new COE quota (May-July period), but based on facts, Category A already has around 2,400 bids for 1,200 quota.”
The CEO of Kah Motor Honda, Nicholas Wong, added: “We have to wait for LTA announcement about the next quota. Prices have gone up by $17k since February for Cat A.”
Waiting, too, is the managing director of Premium Automobiles (Zeekr, Xpeng, DEEPAL, AVATR), Lee Hoe Lone, who said: “May inch up, but depends on COE allocation.”
A managing director of two dealerships was uncertain about the potential COE uptrend, because “Next round Expo some more.” He was referring to The Car Expo, slated for the weekend of May 9-10, with the “super roadshow” driving more orders for new cars and therefore further boosting the demand for COEs.
Nissan sales & marketing head of Tan Chong Motor, Ron Lim, told Motorist: “Given the huge backlog and upcoming Car Expo, the chance of COE premiums coming under pressure to head further north is extremely high.”
On the same page is Hyundai commercial director of Komoco Motors, Ng Choon Wee, who said: “The demand is still high and will continue to climb for the next few bids.”
Less pessimistic, perhaps, is Eurokars EV managing director for IM Motors and MG, Raymond Ng, who said: “When COE premiums rise above the psychological $120k mark, market demand will face some resistance. On the other hand, there are 1,145 unsuccessful bids for Cat A. We should see range-bound movement in the next round of bidding for Cat A.”
