What began as a 900-kilometre charity ride became a story of endurance, setbacks, and the human spirit.

In the early hours of 2 April 2026, Eurokars Group and its Electric Vehicle (EV) arm, MG Singapore, were on the road to support the Tour de Cure, a global initiative raising funds and awareness for cancer research.

The ride was led by Wilfred Diepeveen and James Guardino, also known as Jimmy, from the Specialized Mavericks, a local cycling race team.

The journey began at the MG showroom at 11 Leng Kee Road, with Jimmy riding up to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Wilfred planning a solo return trip to Singapore.

Eurokars and MG Singapore provided support with the all-electric MG M9 as the lead vehicle, while MG Melaka offered the MG S5, as a local guide. The two support vehicles acted as the cyclists’ "Guardian Angels" on the road.

Jimmy completed 420 kilometres to Kuala Lumpur, doubling his previous best record, in a heartfelt tribute to his father, who is undergoing chemotherapy.

Unfortunately, this charity drive did not conclude with a "happily ever after" ending, but a stark reminder that reality is often painful.

Wilfred, having already beaten his personal best in the first leg en route to Kuala Lumpur, was 477 kilometres into his solo return to Singapore when a hit-and-run caused by a speeding motorcyclist abruptly ended the 900-kilometre mission.

This setback reminds everyone that even the best preparation cannot control life’s unpredictability.

The charity ride concluded quietly back at MG Singapore’s showroom, with no medals or fanfare, but a shared recognition that each pedal stroke contributed to a meaningful cause.

Ms Charmain Kwee, group executive director and co-chair of the Sustainability Working Committee (SWC) at Eurokars Group, shared: “Life is a fragile tapestry, often defined not by the years we are given, but by the depth of the legacy we leave behind. I was raised with the belief that our true purpose is to care for others, a value my parents instilled in me from a young age. When the Mavericks shared their mission, it resonated with our core commitment to our communities. While the physical journey was interrupted, the endurance of the human will remain unbroken. We are not merely providing logistics; we are honouring the strength it takes to face a difficult journey - whether on the road or in times of need - and helping others to extend their own stories.”
