Pirelli Asia rolls out the new Cinturato Rosso tyre in Singapore
Pirelli Asia has launched its latest tyre for the replacement market in Singapore - Cinturato Rosso with Seal Inside technology.
This is said to be the first replacement Pirelli tyre available in Singapore with the Italian giant’s self-sealing tyre tech. Prior to this new product debut, Seal Inside was only on the road here as Volkswagen OEM (original equipment manufacturer) fitment on certain VW models - with Cinturato P7, for example.
The current evolution of Seal Inside enables the Cinturato Rosso to maintain air pressure after accidental punctures caused by external objects, which include random nails and sharp road debris. This ability allows drivers to continue their drive, but proper tyre repair or replacement is still required for safety.
In technical terms, there is a sealing mastic inside the tyre which sticks to the object that caused the puncture and creates a seal around it, thereby closing the hole in the tyre tread. The process is described as immediate and effective enough for the average driver to not even notice a tyre puncture just happened.
According to Pirelli, the Seal Inside technology can handle tyre punctures up to 6 mm in diameter. The development work included puncturing a single tyre with 36 nails in a controlled environment - the test tyre managed to retain its air pressure.
The new Pirelli Cinturato Rosso with Seal Inside is available in sizes from 16-inch to 20-inch. Recommended retail prices in Singapore start from $540 for a set of four with size 205/55 R16.
