In the first COE bidding exercise of February 2026, Cat A closed at $106,320; Cat B closed at $110,890; Cat C closed at $74,801; Cat D closed at $8,289; while Cat E closed at $116,000.

Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 1,982 bids for 1,265 COEs and its premium dipped by $3,181. Category A COE closed at $106,320.

Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 966 bids for 813 COEs and its premium dipped by $10,744. Category B COE closed at $110,890.

Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 420 bids for 292 COEs and its premium decreased by $401. Category C COE closed at $74,801.

Cat D (motorcycle) received 645 bids for 550 COEs and its premium decreased by $571. Category D COE closed at $8,289.

Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 462 bids for 271 COEs and dipped by $4,891. Category E COE closed at exactly $116,000.

Motorist asked a few industry insiders for their opinions about this possibility.

Chief executive of Kah Motor Honda, Nicholas Wong, replied: “One thing is for sure - after today’s COE drop is the best time to buy a car, with the short buying weeks ahead for CNY shoppers to look for more rebate savings if prices drop further.”

Managing director of BYD/DENZA distributor Vantage Automotive, Anthony Teo, responded: “With the reduction in COE premiums, people may start to visit showrooms again. For Cat A, likely it will stay put or go up slightly. For Cat B, likely it will not drop further.”

Consultant to multi-brand Vincar Group (GAC, Aion, Hyptec, Proton), Vincent Ng, posed a question back to the Motorist editor: “Can you resist buying a Cat B car?”
