mReview: Skoda Octavia RS MY25 – Sleeper Build

The Skoda Octavia RS is the definition of a sleeper car, with gobs of power, excellent handling, and understated looks.
What’s Great
- It's unflappable, staying rock steady even at high speeds.
- Plenty of power on tap from the 2-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine.
- Swallows up passengers and cargo without fuss so that everyone can go along for the ride.
What’s Good
- Decent fuel economy when pootling around town.
- A sporty yet comfortable interior, perfect for boyracers and their families.
- Sleeper cars are undeniably cool, and the Octavia RS is one of the best examples of that.
What’s Not Great
- While there are physical buttons, the air-con controls are only accessible through the screen.
- The rear passengers have a fairly large central tunnel to contend with, which is not ideal for seating three in the back.
The layman might think this is an ordinary sedan, but those in the know will know that the addition of "RS" to the name means it's a far cry from grandpa's Skoda.
The fit and finish of the interior is up to scratch, with suede and contrast red stitching adorning the dash and seats to give it that extra racey RS vibe.
The Octavia RS is powered by VAG's venerable EA888 Evo4 engine, pushing out 265hp and 370Nm to the front wheels through a quick-shifting 7-speed DSG gearbox.
Fun fact: While the badge says vRS, it's only actually called the vRS in the UK, everywhere else, it's just RS. The more you know!
RS-specific trim include these sports seats with chunky side bolsters, a one-piece seat back style, and Suedia upholstery, all finished with red contrast stitching. Red is the colour of performance, after all.
The Octavia RS features VAG's trick Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system which allows you to change the character of the car on the fly through a menu in the infotainment system, letting you fully customise how the car drives in different scenarios.
We took the Octavia RS on a 1,100km road trip up and around Malaysia, and the rear seats were perfectly spacious and comfortable for passengers throughout any long drives.
The Octavia's 600-litre boot is downright cavernous and was perfect for our road trip, swallowing up three people's worth of luggage, camera gear, and assorted knick-knacks. The liftback-style boot was also incredibly easy to load and unload. And this isn't even the Combi estate version of the Octavia.
