Singapore traffic fines: get $30 reduction with New Early Payment Scheme (EPS)
Starting January 1, 2026, Singapore motorists have a new incentive to settle their composition fines promptly. The Traffic Police (TP) has announced the implementation of the Early Payment Scheme (EPS), which allows eligible drivers to receive a $30 reduction on their fines.
This new initiative is designed to encourage prompt payment of traffic fines and streamline administrative processes by reducing the number of "meritless appeals" the TP currently handles.
In 2024, the TP reported processing over 1,000 appeals monthly, with the vast majority being rejected as appeals are only considered in exceptional circumstances (e.g., medical emergencies with documentary proof).
Who is Eligible for the $30 Fine Reduction?
The Early Payment Scheme applies to specific criteria:
Locally Registered Vehicles: The offence must involve a locally registered vehicle.
Fine Amount: The composition fine must be $50 or more.
Payment Deadline: Motorists must pay the fine within 14 days from the date the Notice of Traffic Offence (NTO) was issued.
Motorists will be clearly notified of their eligibility for the EPS directly through the NTO they receive.
Key Details Motorists Must Know
The 14-day payment window is strict, and the Traffic Police have stated there will be no extension of this deadline. If payment is not completed within the two-week period, the full original composition fine amount will be enforced.
By offering this $30 discount for early settlement, the TP aims to efficiently manage the high volume of traffic offence notices, which averaged about 6,000 NTOs issued monthly in 2024. This scheme provides a tangible benefit for drivers who comply quickly, while simultaneously reducing the burden of processing unnecessary administrative appeals.
In summary, all Singapore motorists should take note: if you receive a composition fine of $50 or more from Jan 1, 2026, ensure you pay it within 14 days to benefit from the $30 fine reduction offered under the new Early Payment Scheme.
