Malaysia’s Immigration Department has brought in measures to deal with the surge of visitors travelling through Customs this Chinese New Year (CNY).

The measures will take place at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex at the Causeway’s Sultan Iskandar Building, as well as the Second Link’s Sultan Abu Bakar Complex in Johor. In simple terms, the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints.

Immigration direct-general, Khairul Dzaimee Daud, mentioned that they “have taken several measures including ensuring that all counters are open at both places especially at the bus, motorcycle and car lanes,” after expecting heavy congestion during the CNY period.

He also stated that there will be 12 additional counters at the Tuas checkpoint, making it a total of 36 counters available to visitors.

There will also be special counters catered to pregnant women, senior citizens and people with disabilities at counters 3 and 4 at the Woodlands checkpoint, while similar counters will be opened up at the car lanes at Tuas checkpoint.

Datuk Khairul also mentioned that steps have been taken to ensure that the systems at both entry points are in good working condition and that leave has been frozen for officers at both entry points. Officers from other units will be redeployed to the Sultan Iskandar Building and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex.

Visitors can stay up-to-date with traffic conditions at both entry points by following the Immigration Department’s social media pages.

Lastly, Datuk Khairul advised road users to follow traffic rules while driving and also to ensure they have enough money in their Touch ‘n Go (TNG) cards before travelling between Malaysia and Singapore. He also encourages visitors to consider using public transport instead.
