George Russell qualifies on pole for the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix ahead of Verstappen and Piastri while both Williams get disqualified
George Russell qualifies on pole position for the 2025 Formula One Singapore Grand Prix ahead of championship-contender Verstappen and championship-leader Piastri.
In a scintillating showdown under the Singapore lights, George Russell came out on top to put his Mercedes-AMG car on pole position for the 2025 Singapore Grand Prix. Russell becomes the fourth different polesitter in Singapore in the last four years.
The Briton fired in a 1:29.158 on his final run in Q3 to solidify his grasp on pole position, though he had such storming pace that both his laptimes in Q3 were good enough to have given him P1 on the starting grid in the Grand Prix.
The Red Bull of Max Verstappen will start alongside him, with a 1:29.340 as the best the Dutchman could do. The four-time world champion still has yet to qualify on pole in Singapore, the only track on the calendar where he hasn’t done so.
Starting in third will be McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, the leader in the driver’s championship standings, with his best lap of a 1:29.524 trailing Russell’s by over three tenths of a second. Piastri’s teammate, closest championship challenger, and last year's polesitter, Lando Norris, will only start fifth.
Russell’s Mercedes teammate, Kimi Antonelli, will start fourth, ahead of the Ferrari duo of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Hamilton and Leclerc will start in sixth and seventh, respectively, after a tough qualifying for the Italian outfit.
UPDATE: Both Williams Racing cars of Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz have been disqualified from qualifying after technical infringements were discovered after the session. The pair had qualified 12th and 13th, respectively, but will lose their positions ahead of the race.
Stay tuned for what will be yet another enthralling Singapore Grand Prix, going green at 8pm local time on Sunday, 5 October.
