Singapore’s Traffic Police (TP) recorded over 118,000 speeding violations in the first half of 2025.

This marks a 45.5 percent jump compared to the same six-month period in 2024 when 81,800 cases were captured, raising greater concerns now about road safety across the island.

On 7 August 2025, TP superintendent Lian Weixiong described the increase as a “worrying trend”. He said TP will intensify enforcement operations and public outreach to tackle dangerous driving.

From January to June this year, the number of speeding offences shot up to over 118,000, which equates to an average of 648 cases per day. 2024 already saw a 10-year high in speeding violations, with 201,300 cases recorded in total.

According to a report in the Straits Times, TP will activate the speed enforcement function in more red-light cameras. The function has been progressively activated islandwide since April 2024, and these cameras have detected more than 42,400 speeding violations.

Heavier penalties for speeding will kick in from 1 January 2026, with more demerit points and higher fines for such offences.
