mReview: 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe

The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is a sleek 4-door coupe, powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It comes in two variants: the 228i xDrive and the M235i xDrive.
Looking for a stylish new ride to cruise through the urban jungle that is Singapore? Look no further than BMW's latest offering — the 2020 2 Series Gran Coupe.
Rivaled to the the Mercedes CLA, it will be one of, if not, the cheapest BMW models in the market. According to BMW, the front-wheel drive 2 Series Gran Coupe features "cutting-edge chassis technology and innovative systems that include control-system technology".
Let's take a look at the rest of its features:
Drivetrain and Performance

Although it features front-wheel drive (just like the BMW 1 series), the 2 Series Gran Coupe will still work together with the xDrive all-wheel drive system to improve overall grip.
The turbocharged 2.0 litre four-cylinder 2 Series Gran Coupe comes in two variants:
- 228i xDrive with 228 horsepower, 259 lb-ft torque
- M235i xDrive with 302 horsepower, 332 lb-ft torque
Both engines will only have an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 228i xDrive can reach 0-to-60 miles per hour (mph) in 6 seconds, while the bigger M235i Sport model can reach such speeds in just 4.7 seconds.
The M235i also has a lower ride height of 10mm with a Damper Control system which allows the driver to choose between two settings – Comfort or Sport.
Interior

With options such as a glass sunroof and 33mm kneeroom, the interior of the 2 Series Gran Coupe comes in 5 different designs with 6 backlit LED trim light colours.
Drivers have a 10-inch size mounted display above the center console, with an option for a 9-inch head-up display.
This fully driver-focused 2 Series Gran Coupe is also equipped with:
- Live Cockpit with Standard Navigation
- Voice Control
- Apple CarPlay
With extensive driver assistance systems, a reversing assistant, gesture control, and Digital Key to enter, this car is indeed a modern BMW vehicle.
Safety

The 2 Series Gran Coupe has safety features which include:
- Front Collision Warning
- Lane Departure Warning
- Active Driving Assistant
The Lane Changing Warning system also allows the driver to guide the vehicle back with a visual warning. It would also be able to engage its steering input if needed.
Other system functions include:
- Route-Ahead Assistant
- Rear-Collision Warning
- Crossing Traffic Warning
- Standard Parking Distance Control
The Standard Parking Distance Control function helps sense the front and rear end of the car, providing visual and audio-visual signals to avoid collisions with obstacles.
Bad at parking? You have an optional Parking Assistance package that you could get. Ego aside, this is really worth the extra bucks if you aren't a fantastic parker.

To Buy or Not to Buy?

Despite the modern BMW vibes and technical features, we would rather go for the sportier M235i model. With extra horsepower and torque, it also comes with a bigger turbo and a better cooling unit than the 228i. It also has better grip and improved handling overall.
Being an well-rounded sports vehicle from looks to performance, it maintains its practicality with the Comfort/Sport setting option. The M235i would definitely be our personal favourite, as it provides the best of both worlds.
