Car Insurance Promotions and Discounts that Drivers Should Take Advantage Of

Car insurance premiums can sometimes be very costly, especially with add-ons. But did you know that your policy provider could have discounts for you to take advantage of? Here’s a rundown of promotions you should look out for.

After all, nobody wants to burn holes in their pockets year after year paying their premiums. Why not get discounts when you can?

On a plus side, every single motor insurance provider in Singapore offers something called the No Claim Discount (NCD), which is basically a discount if no claim has been made under your policy. For every year that you don’t make a claim, your NCD increases by 10%, capping at 50%.

So what exactly do all these percentages mean? To put it simply, if you don’t make an insurance claim for five years, your NCD reaches the maximum of 50%. This give you a 50% discount on your premium.

But NCD aside, some companies do provide extra discounts. Here’s what they are.

1. NTUC Income

An insurance partner of Motorist, NTUC Income is one of the top motor insurance providers in Singapore. They have a good reputation and provide extensive coverage, but how about their discounts? Are they just as good?

The answer is yes!

While the company does not have any motor insurance promotions currently, they do have some discounts available for drivers. Let’s have a look at them.

2. Etiqa

Another partner of Motorist, Etiqa is well-known for their most basic of coverages, but simple really is better at times. They also have a weekly promotion that changes according to the months.

Besides the NCD, Etiqa doesn’t have any other discounts at the moment. But fret not! They still have some promotions for you to take part in. Let’s take a look.

TEIF actually applies to much more than just motor insurance; they also have deals for travel insurance, cyber insurance, etc. Visit their promotions page to see all the deals they offer!

3. FWD

A little word of advice – you should probably read through this paragraph faster. Why? Well…

There’s only ONE (1) day left to grab their promotion!

FWD Insurance has a promotion for car insurance policyholders, amongst other deals as well, but due to the timing of this article, you have just today (18^th Oct) left to apply.

We strongly advise you to read the terms and conditions of this promotion first. Don’t blindly rush in just because there’s a time limit.

But don’t be too disappointed if you missed the promotion. If you’re already insured with FWD, you may be eligible for their renowned Lifetime NCD, provided that you have hit an NCD of 50%.

This truly iconic gamechanger in the insurance industry allows drivers to keep their 50% NCD for – you guessed it – life! It’s a great deal for drivers who renew their policies with FWD, as they basically get half-priced premiums for their whole life.

Keep in mind that this is only for FWD policyholders, and doesn’t apply if you decide to switch insurers.

4. Budget Direct

Budget Direct is another insurance company with a good reputation, and are widely known amongst Singaporeans. Let's take a quick look at their car insurance promotions.

“Pay less or get S$100” – what could this possibly mean? It sounds tempting for anyone looking to save, or earn, some cash. It’s really just Budget Direct revelling in their confidence, which is a good thing!

For example, the time to renew your policy with Company X has arrived but then you come across this promotion and you’re curious about it.

You decide to get a quote with Budget Direct for the same coverage you already get at Company X, but it turns out that the latter’s price is cheaper. Budget Direct will then pay you S$100.

Sounds good right? Just be aware of the terms and conditions of this promotion, as there are a lot of factors that go into this.

Take note of some of the extra discounts you can get on your premium, besides the usual NCD.

5. Aviva

Get ready for a rollercoaster because Aviva has five ongoing promotions for car insurance policyholders! It’s no wonder their tagline under the car insurance promotions says, “drive confidently knowing you’re insured with us”.

That was a lot to take in! Now, the promotions may already have got you excited, but did you know Aviva has the lowest NCD penalty in the industry?

It’s true! While the regular insurer deducts about 30% of your NCD when you make a claim, Aviva only deducts 10%! Although not really categorized as a discount, you do end up saving a lot more when you make a claim, which means you pay a lower premium.

Isn’t that just awesome?

6. Sompo

A smaller insurance company, but just as reliable as the rest. They currently don’t have any promotions, but they have a couple of discounts (aside from NCD) that you can take advantage of.

7. AIG

You may have heard of AIG “going further”, but you’re probably wondering what it actually means. It’s a joint campaign between AIG and KrisFlyer, in honour of AIG’s 100^th birthday! Here’s the rundown of the promotions offered:

Standing a chance to win 100,000 miles? That’s amazing! You could travel to many places, and all for free! You still have time to apply for this, since the last winner will be announced in November.

Although, to apply for these promotions, you’d have to be an existing KrisFlyer member. All you have to do is fill up this registration form and that’s it! You’re now a member.

8. DirectAsia

Another insurance company well-known for their specialty – NCD60. This company has four promotions for car insurance policyholders. Let’s take a look, shall we?

We know that looks like a lot of information, but it’s worth it in the end. Promotions aside, let’s look at the NCD60.

It’s a special feature awarded to drivers who were able to keep their NCD at 50% for the last five consecutive years, i.e. not making a claim for 10 whole years!

In honour of this achievement, DirectAsia gives NCD60 to these drivers plus an extra 10% discount on their base premium. This means that the policyholder will get 60% + 10% off their premium!

9. China Taiping

We’re nearing the end of the list, but here’s another car insurance contender! In honour of 81 years of heritage in Singapore, China Taiping has organized a lucky draw for new customers who want to purchase their insurance policies.

Now for motor insurance, a new sign-up would not be entitled to a premium discount, but still eligible for the lucky draw.

10. HL Assurance

Last but not least, HL Assurance. While they don’t have any discounts at the moment, there is a promotion that they offer that is pretty worth it. Let’s have a look.

A 25% discount plus complimentary car servicing? That sounds like a really good deal to us!

We hope that after looking through these 10 companies and their promotions, you’d have a better idea of who to insure your car with.
