The Topspeed team is attempting to do simulator racing at a scale never before seen in Singapore. This resource-intensive approach aims to spread awareness about e-Motorsports locally.
It also provides the general public with a relatively affordable way to sample the hobby. But relatively affordable doesn’t mean you’d be driving in the virtual world on your standard mass-market hardware - the Topspeed team has standards.A direct result of this ethos is their decision to equip the space with 6 identical simulator racing rigs, all decked out with powerful PCs and curved widescreens. The centrepiece of each rig has to be the Simagic Direct Drive Wheel, and the professional-grade pedals. But to avoid an “all the gear, no idea” scenario, each setup has been tuned by industry veterans (the founders of S5 Technology) and professional sim drivers and race karters.
The idea of the space is to create an avenue for the masses to hone their driving abilities, without the exorbitant upfront cost of a simulator rig. It also allows one to have a go at driving in the virtual world, before deciding if this is a hobby that they’d really want to pursue. It’d also allow the Topspeed team to identify up-and-coming young talents that may otherwise have no opportunity to showcase their driving talents.Topspeed also offers track analysis, track day preparation and coaching by race drivers. You’d be taught the basics of performance driving, saving you a lot of time as there’s no need to experiment with all the various techniques. It is also a lower cost alternative to actually having more seat time in your own car, as a trip to and from Sepang, as well as a full-on track day, can subject your vehicle to a lot of wear-and-tear.
To be clear, it is a bonus to have this level of equipment at your disposal. But it isn’t a necessity if you’d like to genuinely be competitive - afterall, technique is more important, and some of the fastest sim racers on the planet use fairly basic equipment. The professional-grade hardware just removes the equipment uncertainty, allowing you to focus on the thing that matters the most - honing your driving skills. You’d find this tech-forward business located at a suitably apt place - Funan, which is a tech mall. Their central location means that you’ll always be able to access their services whenever you are in the city! Find out more information on their Instagram account right here!
