The marque has given the model a subtle yet effective update to the sheet metal, including redesigned front and rear fascias. Now standard is the M High-gloss Shadowline trim, which brings about an element of sportiness to the car with blacked-out exterior trim pieces. All 3 Series sedans will also come with 17" light alloy wheels straight out of the factory.Editors%2 Fimages%2 F1652863126643 3er Rear+2

The standard full-LED headlights – with Adaptive LEDs Headlights available as an option –  are now slimmer in design, with the daytime running lamps arranged in an inverted L-shape motif. They flank BMW's signature twin kidney grille, which has also been revised for the new model year.

The rear apron has also been redesigned to give the 3 Series a more sophisticated look, with horizontal lines and flared rear wheel arches to emphasise the car's muscular rear stance. Depending on the engine variant selected, the tailpipe finishers will now measure 90 or 100 millimetres in diameter.

Inside, the 2023 3 Series will feature BMW's Curved Display, featuring a seamless blend of a 12.3" information display behind the steering wheel and a 14.9" control display at the centre. The gear knob has been replaced with a small lever and paddle shifters, both of which connect to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission as standard.

Owners will have the choice to shift via paddle shifters on the steering wheel. A Steptronic Sport option is available, which provides sharper gear shifts and a Launch Control function, as well as a Sprint function which allows spirited bursts of mid-range power.

The BMW iDrive infotainment system inside will also come equipped with BMW Operating System 8, first seen in the BMW iX electric SUV (which we will be reviewing very soon, so stay tuned!). Touchscreen and voice-operated controls will be at the forefront, minimising the need for physical buttons. The new operating system also means a more capable BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

Buyers will be spoilt for choice, even though the engine variants available remain the same. Not only does the 3 Series come in traditional internal combustion engine forms, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid versions will also be made available.

While the 3er Sedan can be ordered in three plug-in hybrid variants, the Touring variant will have a choice of four. There are also diesel options available, though the jury is still out on whether they'll eventually make it to our shores.

Customers will also have the option to spec out their new 3 Series with the M Sport package. This includes a honeycomb mesh pattern for the BMW kidney grille, more aggressive front and rear apron designs, and new M light alloy 18" wheels, with 19" ones as an added option.

The package will also include trapezoidal tailpipe trims for the exhaust system, extended M High-gloss Shadowline trim, M lights Shadowline and an M Sport braking system with red calipers. Exterior colour options have also been expanded to include Skyscraper Grey metallic and M Brooklyn Grey metallic.

The BMW Individual Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic special paint finishes have been added to the range too. In total, customers can also choose from a selection of around 150 additional BMW Individual special paint finishes.
