I would like to know if it's possible to convert a private car that is slightly over 9 years old into a private hire car. What would be the associated costs for this conversion?

Additionally, will insurance providers cover a car of this age for private hire purposes, and can I receive a quote for a policy duration of less than a year? If the car is deregistered before the policy term ends, will the insurance be pro-rated?

Hi, Siqi Ghee!

To convert your vehicle in or out of the Private Hire Car (PHC) scheme, and vice versa, please log in:

As for the insurance and pro-rata adjustments, most insurance providers can offer coverage for private hire cars. However, the cost will depend on several factors, including the car model, age, and your driving history. It’s best to contact insurance companies directly, as they will give you an accurate estimate based on your needs.

Thank you!
