Why is the cost of renewal of road tax for a year more than double of that of renewal for half a year?

Hi Oliver,
The road-tax payable for 6 months (x2) is usually the same as when you pay for 12 months (1x).
I think the difference is the road tax rebate that the government provided last year as part of the fight against covid.
