Range Rover Sport Electric and Jaguar Type 01 - latest British EVs trod different paths

Range Rover Sport Electric

Two new British electric cars from Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) are taking different approaches - the Range Rover Sport Electric retains familiar styling from its lineage, whereas Jaguar’s Type 01 introduces a radical new saloon design.

The all-electric Range Rover Sport retains the aesthetic styling of its combustion-engined counterpart, switching the dinosaur-burning powerplant with a 118.5kWh battery that offers up to 609km of WLTP range, and twin motors producing up to 550PS and 850Nm, propelling the 2.7-tonne behemoth to 100km/h from a standing start in 4.3 seconds. Using a 350kW DC charger, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in around 22 minutes.

The muscular SUV is built in Solihull, UK, using battery packs and electric motors manufactured in Wolverhampton.

Wearnes Automotive expects the model to reach Singapore around the end of Q1 2027. Allowing for homologation, its Singapore debut could take place around April 2027.

Jaguar Type

Jaguar Type 01 marks a radical departure from the "big British cat" saloon norm.

Jaguar’s Type 01 is a four-door luxury GT that departs sharply from the brand’s traditional movie baddie-esque saloons with its long bonnet, low roofline and sleek proportions for today’s climate-conscious henchmen.

The car's triple-motor setup produces 1,030PS and 1,365Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h sprint in 3.2 seconds, perfect for getaways. The 118kWh battery offers up to 720km of WLTP range with 350kW charging supported. The Type 01 will be built in Solihull too, with battery packs and electric drive units produced in Wolverhampton and body panels pressed in Halewood.

UK deliveries are expected to begin in the second half of 2027, with prices starting at £130,000 (approximately SGD222,500 at the time of writing) - perhaps a small price to pay after looting a casino along the coast of southern France.

Jaguar Type

Wearnes Automotive has indicated that the Type 01 will not reach Singapore's Jaguar showroom in 2027, with a local debut tentatively expected for 2028 instead.

The Jaguar I-Pace was JLR’s previous production battery-electric vehicle, whose model life ended in 2024.

The two electric newcomers therefore represent different sides of JLR’s electric future: the Range Rover Sport Electric brings familiar SUV design into the EV era, while the Jaguar Type 01 signals a bold new direction for the marque.
