The 2026 Singapore Grand Prix will host a Formula One Sprint race for the first time in its history.

Fans of Formula One will have more on-track action to watch next year, as the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix has been officially announced as a sprint race weekend, the first time a sprint race will be held in Singapore.

The Singapore Grand Prix will be one of six race weekends next year to host a sprint race, with the other sprint weekends taking place at the Chinese, Miami, Canadian, British, and Dutch Grands Prix.

As part of a sprint weekend, the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix will see the usual Free Practice 2 (FP2) session on Friday replaced by a Sprint Qualifying session, which sets the grid for the Sprint Race on Saturday. The Sprint Race itself will replace the Free Practice 3 (FP3) session, while the traditional Qualifying session to set the grid for Sunday’s Grand Prix will take place as usual on Saturday night.

Introduced in 2021, Sprint races are shorter versions of the main race, just 100km (a normal Grand Prix is 305km) with no mandatory pit stop. World Championship points are up for grabs, too, with eight points awarded to the Sprint race winner.

“We are thrilled to be one of six circuits to host the F1 Sprint next year. We’ve already seen new Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix winners each year since 2022, and with new regulations, a new team joining the grid, as well as the F1 Sprint, fans can look forward to even more competitive racing as the drivers go all-out on all three event days,” says Jonathan Hallett, Director of Singapore GP Pte Ltd.

The 2026 Singapore Grand Prix will be held from 9 to 11 October, with tickets expected to be released in phases soon.

The 2025 edition of the Singapore Grand Prix will run from 3 to 5 October.
