Champion Motors Singapore (CMS) has been on the road with the country’s everyday motorists for 50 years, from Orchard Road in 1975 to Chang Charn Road in 2025.

The first CMS showroom in Singapore was in the heart of town, where Lucky Plaza is located today. Fortune would smile on the car company in another way two years later, when it was appointed as the local authorised distributor for Suzuki passenger cars in 1977.

In the decades since then, CMS has been faithful to Suzuki’s successful automotive philosophy of “Sho-Sho-Kei-Tan-Bi”, which is Japanese car-making shorthand for “smaller, fewer, lighter, shorter, neater”.

This translates neatly into the sensible superminis, affordable pocket rockets and rugged yet useful off-roaders from Suzuki over the years, which have made their mark on the Singapore motoring landscape from the pre-COE era to the present high-COE period.

Drivers with a cultural rear view mirror that looks back far enough might remember the all-time most iconic Suzukis in Singapore.

The early Swifts (hatchback, saloon, GTi), latter-day Swift runabouts. Three speedy generations of Swift Sport hot hatches for grassrootsy boyracers. A forest of wildly versatile Vitaras which helped to popularise the go-everywhere, do-everything SUV (sports-utility vehicle) in the concrete jungle.

Not forgetting Suzuki Jimny, the definitive Japanese off-roader that expertly bridged the little Singapore river separating a rough outdoor lifestyle and a tough suburban drivestyle.

The Jimny story continues this year 2025 with the latest and more practical five-door version, which paved a passage from India to park inside the new Suzuki showroom at 7 Chang Charn Road.

The CMS Suzuki flagship duplex facility in the Leng Kee motor belt supports both sales and aftersales, with lifestylish displqy space for up to nine new Suzukis, a customer lounge, a new-Suzuki delivery suite, dedicated service counters, and an integrated “see-through” workshop.

The previous place across the street at no. 10 was much smaller. Singapore’s other Suzuki showroom and service centre, which is part of Inchcape Centre at 2 Pandan Crescent, continues to operate.

Adding colour to Champion Motors’ 50th anniversary celebrations are the thematic tie-ups with Korean lifestyle brand Wiggle Wiggle and homegrown creative studio 8EyedSpud.

The Wiggle Wiggle collaboration is in the fun form of a custom-decorated Suzuki Jimny, along with special Suzuki-style merchandise available for purchase till 30 November 2025. The 8EyedSpud partnership with Suzuki is happily visualised in artwork for campaign collateral, including car decals and CMS50 cashcards.

Bringing Suzuki cars closer to drivers in the community is the ongoing strategic partnership between Champion Motors and leading car-sharing platform GetGo. A fleet of Suzuki Swift hybrid hatchbacks has been registered for users of GetGo and also its new ZipZap car-subscription service.
