BYD led the Singapore new car market in first half of 2025

BYD led the Singapore new car market in first half of 2025 with 4,667 registrations, which equate to a dominant market share of 19.5 percent.

Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has become Singapore’s best-selling car brand, accounting for about one in five new car registrations from 1 January to 30 June this year. 

According to recent Land Transport Authority (LTA) data, BYD made up 19.5 percent of the total 23,957 registrations in the first half of this year (2025 January-June), up from 13.9 percent in last year's corresponding period. 

BYD with 4,667 units put on the road was ahead of long-time Singapore favourite Toyota/Lexus (in second place with 3,461 units or 14.4 percent of registrations), and BMW (in third place with 2,664 units or 11.1 percent of registrations). 

Mercedes-Benz was in fourth position with 2,537 units or 10.6 percent market share, while Honda took the fifth spot with 2,268 units or 9.5 percent market share. Meanwhile, American EV giant Tesla registered 1,419 units in the first half of 2025.    

BYD's continued dominance in Singapore's highly-competitive car market boils down to the popular Chinese automaker's cost-effective models in COE Category A (boosted by Government rebates for EVs), multiple retailers and complete range of eco-friendly cars from supermini to SUV, now supplemented by a capable new petrol-electric hybrid option in the form of the Sealion 6 DM-i.
