This man from Ipoh demonstrates why you should always switch off your car engine while pumping petrol.

Currently being circulated on Facebook, the viral video (see below) shows a car pulling up to a gas pump at a petrol station in Perak, Ipoh. After exiting his car, the driver (the man wearing a cap) can be seen inserting the petrol spout into his car.

However, what he failed to realise is that his car engine is still on. Eventually, the outflowing fuel caught fire in his fuel tank and burst into flames.

Panicking at this point, the man commits another grave mistake by pulling the spout out from his car without first disengaging the flow of petrol. This causes burning fuel to spew across the floor, almost burning the driver's friend who happens to be standing nearby.

Luckily for him, there was no secondary explosion and most of the fire died out rather quickly. The petrol station attendants were also ready with fire extinguishers to put out the remaining flames.

No serious injuries were reported. According to the news source, the fire was likely caused by the car engine which was still running while the driver was pumping petrol.

This goes to show that you should always be attentive, even for something as simple as filling your car with petrol.
