Is it worth the effort to change the ERP OBU 2.0 if the car is going to be scrapped next year (Eg. Feb 2026)?

According to LTA, it is mandatory for all Singapore-registered vehicles to install the new OBU by the end of the OBU installation exercise, except the following:

- Singapore-registered vehicles that are not allowed to travel on mainland public roads such as tractors, locomotives, construction equipment.

- Vehicles on Restricted Use Scheme such as airport vehicles, port vehicles, Pulau Ubin vehicles, vehicles used in offshore islands only, vehicles on laid-up status, and vehicles under the Keeping Scheme.

- Non-mechanically propelled vehicles such as trailers

- Classic/Vintage vehicles as they are more sparingly used and subject to usage restrictions.

The OBU installation exercise is commenced in phases and is expected to be completed by end-2025.

Hence, it will be mandatory to change to the ERP OBU 2.0 if your vehicle is expected to scrap only in year 2026.
