Not every car owner will be happy about sending their car to a workshop as it can be a financial burden.

However, it's dangerous to ignore these five warning signs that your car needs a service and continue driving around Singapore. Worse still, you might end up with an even more expensive auto repair bill!

1. Strange Noises

Strange noises can include uneven engine noise, brakes squealing when you step on them, exhaust noise that is louder than usual, dragging sounds from the wheels and whining sounds from beneath the bonnet. If you hear these unusual noises coming from your car while driving, it's an indication that your car should be checked before the problem turns serious!

2. Problems with Steering

Do not underestimate the problems associated with your car's steering. If you find it difficult to steer or if feel that your car is favouring to one side when in a neutral position, you should book your car in for a service immediately.

3. Flashing Warning Lights

Never ignore the warning lights that are flashing on your car's dashboard. The yellow symbol is an engine warning light and if it flashes, it's a sign that there's something wrong with one of your car's systems. As there are a range of problems associated with the "Check Engine Light", it is recommended that you should get your car diagnosed with a professional mechanic as soon as possible.

If your brake fluid warning light (red symbol) flashes when you apply the brakes or if it is illuminated continuously, it highlights that there's a problem with your brake system. Brakes are arguably the most important safety feature of your car, and you should send your car for a service right away.

4. Abnormal Shaking or Vibrating

If you feel that your car is shaking or vibrating whilst driving or in idle, it could be due to unbalanced wheels, over-worn ball joints, loose hoses, clogged transmission filter, etc. Bring your car to a mechanic and get it fixed as soon as possible, regardless of the issue.

5. Leaks

Fluid leak can undermine your car's performance and even shorten your car's lifespan. How do you tell if your car is leaking? When you move your car from its usual spot and if you see oil spots, green liquid stains or any unusual leaking from your car's exhaust pipe, it's an indication that you need to send your car for an immediate service.
