In the first COE bidding exercise of June 2026, Cat A closed at $126,009; Cat B closed at $126,989; Cat C closed at $94,000; Cat D closed at $10,000; while Cat E closed at $129,000.

Cat A (car up to 1600cc & 130bhp, and EV with up to 110kW) received 2,076 bids for 1,246 COEs and its premium climbed by $1,780. Category A COE closed at $126,009.

Cat B (car above 1600cc or 130bhp, and EV with more than 110kW) received 1,300 bids for 889 COEs and its premium dipped by $2,512. Category B COE closed at $126,989.

Cat C (goods vehicle and bus) received 453 bids for 293 COEs and its premium increased by $1,777. Category C COE closed at exactly $94,000.

Cat D (motorcycle) received 594 bids for 526 COEs and its premium increased by $311. Category D COE closed at exactly $10,000.

Lastly, Cat E (all vehicles except motorcycle) received 497 bids for 261 COEs and dipped by $1,000. Category E COE closed at exactly $129,000.

Motorist asked several motor traders for their predictions on how the COE premiums might move in the next two bidding rounds, which will close on June 17 and July 8, with a three-week break in between.

Two of them predicted a “highway cruise”.

Adelene Tan, managing director of Vantage Automotive BYD, told Motorist: “Depending on the demand, it will continue at this (price) range till the Expo orders run out.”

Corinne Chua, managing director of Volvo Car Singapore, added: “I think COE premiums will stay at current levels for a while, as there are still a lot of customers whose cars are near the end of their 10-year COE cycle. “

One motor trader predicted an acceleration ahead.

The general manager of a Leng Kee dealership said: “It might be flat towards an uptrend. Those selling (Cat) A and B variants will tap on selling B now.”

Some others, however, predicted a deceleration.

Ng Choon Wee, Komoco Motors commercial director of Hyundai, said: “I see the weakness in Category B, which received 30 percent fewer bids as compared to last round. School holidays have started and visitors to showroom may get lesser this month. If bidders do not bid aggressively, we may see COE premiums coming down in the next bid.”

Lee Hoe Lone, Premium Automobiles managing director of Zeekr, Xpeng, DEEPAL and AVATR, said: “Might trend down to near $120k, at least I hope!”

The head honcho of a popular Japanese dealership told Motorist: “Nothing major, but a slight dip in Cat B.”

Whether the COE premiums in the two upcoming rounds end up cruising, climbing or dipping, the market demand is likely to keep going.

“It seems the high COE is not deterring buyers from buying,” said Nicholas Wong, chief executive of Kah Motor Honda.

As for the new record-setting $94k Category C COE premium for commercial vehicles, Vynn Tu, Wearnes Automotive general manager of Renault and Alpine, had this to say: “I feel it’s a combi of the HVZES (Heavy Vehicle Zero Emissions Scheme) incentive and rising fuel cost that is pushing more new replacements of ICE fleet with EV options.”
