What drivers can look forward to in 2017

Car News    Zahara

Besides the drop in COE this year, Singaporean drivers have plenty of things to look forward to in the coming year. Some practical, others a little over the top - but what's a new year without new things to be excited about?

1. Goodbye, Road Tax Discs

Great news to save time and effort, because from 15 February 2017, motorists will no longer be required to display road tax discs on the windscreens of their vehicles. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will stop issuing physical road tax discs as part of its efforts to streamline its processes. However, motorists are still required to ensure that they have paid the requisite road tax for the year.

2. Exciting Motorist.sg events

At the very first Motorist.sg event, we saw a huge turnout of over 50 cars and countless faces. In 2017, we have bigger plans. Our future events will feature car-boot sales, car showcases, food trucks, and whatever the team has under their belt (a lot of surprises, no doubt). Follow us on Facebook to find out where and when our next event will be!

3. The year of innovative gadgets

If you remember our last article on 5 cool car gadgets you didn't know you needed till today, you may realize that more car gadgets are being fully funded and rolling out. Gadgets that find your car in a huge parking lot, or stream your music wirelessly via the cigarette port. Maybe next year we'll finally get keys to a flying car prototype?

4. EV car-sharing programme

Got a license but no car? Singapore will be launching an Electric Vehicle (EV) car-sharing programme by mid-2017. In collaboration with Bolloré Group, EVs will be deployed in every HDB town by the year 2020. We will see these rolled out in the coming year and expect an island-wide installation of charging infrastructure of 2,000 charging points, all for the public to use. The first batch of 125 EVs will be introduced to towns in Ang Mo Kio, Jurong East and Punggol by mid 2017.
